Creative Proteomics has developed a reliable and reproducible method using highly sensitive LC-MS/MS method for the rapid identification and quantification of inositol-p-ceramide in yeast, which can satisfy the needs of academic and industrial study in your lab.

Overview

Inositol-P-ceramide (IPC) is a class of anionic sphingolipids with a single inositol-phosphate head group coupled to ceramide. IPCs were initially identified as yeast sphingolipids in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and have later been identified in other yeasts, protozoa and plants. IPCs are synthesized by transfer of the phosphoinositol moiety from phosphatidylinostol to the C-1-hydroxy group in ceramide by the enzyme, IPC synthase in the Golgi.

Inositol-P-Ceramide Targeted Lipidomics

Inositol phosphate ceramide is an important part of the biofilm in yeast. In the lipid rafts of the cell membrane, IPC lipids interact with membrane proteins with signal transduction functions, and their effects are similar to those of animal sphingosine. IPC ceramide is also the precursor of other complex glycophospholipids. In addition, the biosynthesis of IPC lipids reduces the accumulation of ceramide in cells, thus inhibiting programmed cell death.

For the analysis of IPC, a reliable and reproducible method using highly sensitive LC-MS/MS platform for the identification and quantification of IPC in yeast has been established by the scientists at Creative Proteomics. The combination of MS instrument and liquid chromatography (LC) can effectively separate target lipid molecules from complex samples.
